Tires mix matching

We use different front and rear tires on the majority of our bikes, such as the XS, XFS, 8H, etc. Why do we do this?
In 2005 I used 1.75" tires in front and rear of all of our bikes. My friend Paul came with me to Las Vegas in 2007 for the Interbike show. We were just chatting about tires and he mentioned mix matching front and rear to minimize rolling resistance, while keeping traction in the back.
Neither of us have ever heard of a bike company mix matching tires, at the time. We tried it out and the bike rolled 1.5mph faster on average, and they could still handle rough stuff. Overall, this was one of the best upgrades we have ever added to the bikes. I am shocked that everyone has not followed our lead....sometimes good things take time to catch on :)
