Safety on a Folding Bike

I have travelled the world on a folding bike. In doing so I have learned to minimize dangers on the road. Here are the most important items to stay safe:
1. Get a folding bike with suspension. Suspension smooths out the bumps on the sidewalk, allowing one to comfortably ride there. I have lived in areas of the Bahamas, and Virgin Islands where riding on the road is impossible. Suspension keeps you safe.
2. Bells are great to allow pedestrians to know you are coming. There is no better way to tell people you are behind.
3. Lights are necessary at night. However never use flashing lights. Drivers will stare at the flash and get closer to you. So keep it on the solid mode.
4. Mirrors are necessary. There are many styles: bar, helmet, frame mounted. They all do the job, use one to keep you safe.
5. Wide tires allow the rider to make a mistake and get away with it. Try some wider tires during travels.
