Eastern Oregon University is a dream
This year I have been blessed with an opportunity to teach at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, OR. I wanted to share my feelings about this awesome school and town.
EOU is the only public rural university in Oregon, situated in a mountain valley. It has all new buildings on a beautiful small campus. The outdoor program is the bomb with rafting, hiking, and snowshoeing trips. The climbing in this part of the country is impressive, and there is a great indoor climbing wall in case it gets rough outside.
The University has an awesome gymnasium, with two huge basketball courts, climbing wall, and more. The art department is full of student art on all the walls. Loso Hall has a year round professional exhibit which is free to the public. Additionally a clay lab is on the first floor. The 2nd floor of Hoke has a game room ( foosball, pool, ping pong ) . Students love it!
The only thing better than the school is the town. La Grande is a small town of 13,000 and everyone is nice....really nice. I'm still shocked at how wonderful it is. My kids said the same thing about the elementary school kids. The kids are much nicer than those in NC ( we love the Carolina's too ). The character of the community is unmatched.
The town has the following stores:
1. Faire Beads - A store for healing, using beads and stones
2. Kneads Bakery - A real local bakery, with fresh bread baked daily.
3. Natures Pantry - The ultimate health food store, everything is super fresh!
4. Archery - In the middle of downtown you can shoot a bow and arrow ( free targets with the purchase of a bow )
5. Drive in Movie Theater - Not too many of these left in the USA.
6. Skatepark & playground - Pioneer Park has both and they are FREE.
7. Riverside park has the coolest playground ever, and it is situated on a river.
