Titanium Whipperman Chains

Titanium chains are a misnomer. Only the pins are made from titanium, the rest is normal. Regardless these chains are light and considered top of the line. I never rode with a titanium chain, I normally use the standard cheap SRAM ( formerly Sachs ) chains. However we started selling tons of Campagnolo parts including high end Eurus wheels. Eventually I got a few Whipperman titanium chains. I could not understand how a chain could cost $300+, but I assumed there was a reason. I was surprised by a couple of things.

1. It looked like a normal chain, nothing special.

2. The packaging was amazing. It seemed as though it was made for high end jewelry. This was the nicest box I have ever seen on a bicycle part.

I don't think titanium chains are a good investment....given the cost for minor weight savings. Additionally, there is minimal data on the durability of titanium chains, I would not assume they last longer without data to support that hypothesis. However the packaging is out of this world. Definitely a conversation piece. Overall, I like SRAM and KMC chains, just get one with a masterlink for easy removal.
