I learned to handle car impacts from a motorcyclist. He told me to jump onto the car, always stay on top. Never go under a car.

One day in the Bahamas a student of mine from the College turned at a roundabout, and hit me & my bicycle. I jumped into his hood and took a ride. He pulled over and we both understood how lucky I was. The folding bike was essential to allow me to get over the frame and onto his car. Had I ridden a taller bike I would not have been able to jump over the top tube. Folding bike are low, and easy to jump over. It's actually safer than big bikes in an accident.

My rear wheel and pedals were busted, but the student paid for replacement.
