Glass style ice is impossible to ride. I fell instantly many times, and have not figured out a solution. However in the west they allow the ice to pile up during winter. The ice on the roads is rough, not glass like. I was amazed that the rough ice is easy to ride. I spent an entire winter without going down....though I almost went down once.
