Cycling across the County

I biked across the country twice. My first trip started outside NYC. We rode up along the Hudson, then across the Erie canal to Niagara Falls. We assumed these bodies of water would have flatter roads, and we were correct for the most part.

Once in Canada we went to Port Huron, and everything got dicey in Michigan. The drivers were consistently trying to run us off the road. Additionally it rained every day, I assume being situated between two great lakes brings moisture.

Eventually we jumped on a ferry to Green Bay, Wisconsin. It is amazingly small town to house an NFL team. Everyone was nice and super polite. Wisconsin became one of my favorite states, because everyone was nice.

Minnesota was next, and it took three days to get through....it's kind of small. South Dakota was next and everything changed. The wind was amazingly strong, and I averaged as little as 8 mph as compared to 12.5 mph for the rest of the trip. I worked hard and made little progress for over a week. North Dakota was much of the same. Big wind meant minimal progress.

Then I found Montana, a wonderful place to meet good honest hard working people. It took a long time, it's a big state. Idaho was next. It was all downhill, so I flew threw the state in part of a day. Coeur d'Alene was a super cool small town.

Then cam Washington and everything changed at Spokane. I saw mostly pickups for about a month in the midwest. Washington was the first time I saw BMW's, Mercedes, and yuppies. It was strange culture shock for me. It rained all the time, but I was almost finished. The Cascades were amazing with the clouds under the mountains....simply breathtaking. Eventually I made it into Seattle and my tour came to a close.
